How to Draw Dumbo – let’s Get Started!
Step 1
When one thinks of the Dumbo character, the first thing that comes to mind is his large ears that he uses to fly through the air. We’ll start with one of his ears in this how-to-draw guide. Dumbo. First, let’s start with his signature hat. This hat has a small brim and a pointed tip, and the reference image will show you what it should look like.
Once I draw that hat, we’ll draw that big ear we mentioned. Draw a long, thin, curved shape with a rounded tip for the right side of the ear that slightly curves. Then extend another wavy line down from the top of the ear to the left side. Finally, add another curved line coming down from the ear for the beginning of Dumbo’s back. Then you are ready for step 2!
Step 2
We will now start drawing the head and another ear for your Dumbo drawing in this next step. To do this, you can first draw another rounded line coming down from the base of your hat. Once drawn, we’ll add his eyes, which are thin vertical ovals with more rounded shapes on the inside.
We’ll also draw some curved lines above the eyes for the eyebrows. Finally, you can also draw the other ear on the right side of the head. This ear will look very similar to the first one, but it will be thinner due to our viewing perspective.
Step 3
As we all know, Dumbo is a little elephant, meaning he must have a trunk. That’s why we’ll add one for him, along with a few more facial details in this step of our guide on how to draw Dumbo. It will stretch between his eyes and be drawn with rounded lines connecting each other. On the trunk floor, we will also add smiling chops. After drawing the trunk, you can add a little collar around his neck using more rounded lines and then add his little legs tucked underneath.
Step 4
In the next step of this how-to-draw Dumbo guide, along with the next one, we will focus on finishing the final details and parts of your Dumbo drawing. First, add a curved line below his body to draw his rounded belly.
Then we’ll add another small foot that sticks out from under the belly. You can draw his tail sticking out from his back to finish this step. Once these details have been drawn, we’re ready to add the final details to this image in the next step.
Step 5
There’s a little space left in this image, and we’ll fill it in for this step of our guide on how to draw Dumbo. To fill this gap, we’ll draw Dumbo’s final leg, and this leg will look very similar. To the other legs, he has drawn for him. Once you’re done with this stage, you can add a few details and touches of your own before moving on.
A good idea would be to draw a background for this image. You could use your favorite scene from the movie to recreate the moment or create a new setting for Dumbo. Adding more beloved characters from the movie would also enhance this image. What will you do to finish this drawing?
Step 6
When we colored our example image for this Dumbo drawing, we kept the colors looking the same as they did in the movie. That means we used grays for most of his body and incorporated some pinks for his inner ears.
Finally, we used reds and yellows for his yoke and his cap. If you want Dumbo to look like it in the movie, our example image will serve as a color guide you can follow! However, this is his drawing, so if you prefer to use different colors or coloring mediums, you should feel free to get creative with him!
